UFMA Institutional Scholarship Program

    The Institutional Scholarship Program of Scientific Initiation, linked to the Research Department of the UFMA Research and Graduate Degrees, is a Program focused on the scientific initiation that seeks to search for new talents in all areas of knowledge, serving incentives for the training of new researchers; privileges the active participation of good students in Research Projects with academic quality, scientific merit and adequate, individual and continuous orientation. The Projects culminate in a Final Work evaluated and valued, providing immediate return to the scholarship holder, with a view to the continuity of their formation, particularly in the postgraduate. The PIBIC (Institutional Scholarship Program of Scientific Initiation) of UFMA was created on December 21, 1987 with the aim of increasing the CNPq's Northern Postgraduate Project, as an attempt by the Pro-Rectory of Research and Post-Graduation, in overcome our shortcomings, enabling our young people to take a course in the field of scientific research. Today, it is a solid program with 27 years of experience and thousands of research projects carried out, young graduates and scholarships distributed, in full swing and national projection.

     

    Goals:

     

    a) To awaken scientific vocation and encourage new talents among undergraduate students;

    b) Provide the Institution with an instrument for formulating a policy for the initiation of research for undergraduate students;

    c) To stimulate a greater articulation between undergraduate and graduate studies;

    d) Contribute to the training of human resources for research;

    e) Contribute in a decisive way to reduce the average time spent in graduate school;

    f) Encourage productive researchers to involve graduate students in scientific, technological and artistic-cultural activities;

    g) Provide the scholarship holder, guided by a qualified researcher, the learning of techniques and research methods, as well as stimulate the development of scientific thinking and creativity, arising from the conditions created by direct confrontation with research problems.

    How the Student Can Participate:

     

    The student interested in participating in the Program should look for a teacher who has a research project in their area of interest and show their desire to be part of the research. If selected by the teacher, according to his performance in the classes, the student creates, along with him, the subproject that will be developed throughout the Program. The ready subproject can be submitted to the selection during the registration period of the Pibic Notice for the current year.

    Scholarship / Volunteer Requirements

    - Be a student regularly enrolled in an undergraduate course and enrolled in disciplines during the validity of the scholarship;

    - Have academic performance compatible with predicted scientific initiation activities when compared to peers;

    - Not having an employment relationship; (scholarship only requirement)

    - Not receiving any other type of scholarship, either from CNPq, from another development agency or from the institution itself, including monitoring, extension, teaching, PET and UFMA or FAPEMA scholarship; (scholarship only requirement)

    - Be up to date with the delivery of the partial or final reports regarding the previous year's scholarship, in the specific case of a renewed scholarship, in addition to presenting his work at SEMIC, with the participation of the tutor.

    - The duration of the scholarship is 12 (twelve) months, allowing for renewals, at the discretion of the advisor.

     

     How the Teacher Can Participate:

     

    The teacher interested in having a student of Scientific Initiation should be a participant in a research project; selecting a graduate student, taking into account their performance in class; together with it, a subproject, starting with its research project.

    Then, the teacher can submit the subproject of his student to the selection in the period of inscriptions of the PPIBIC Announcement of the current year.

     

    Advisor Requirements

    - Have experience compatible with the role of supervisor and trainer of qualified human resources and be registered in a CNPq research group;

    Requirements for the Evaluation of Projects:

     

    a) To have technical-scientific merit, with a technical opinion issued by another researcher, approved by the Departmental Assembly. Projects already approved by research bodies will not need to be analyzed in this regard;

    b) To have approval in the Ethics Committee for research involving humans or animals and to present a Biosafety Quality Certificate when transgenic products are involved, in accordance with Decree No. 1752/95;

    c) Present technical and economic feasibility. The PPPG does not have a research support fund, so it is up to the researcher to make the necessary resources available for the execution of the project;

    e) Contribute in a decisive way to reduce the average time spent in graduate school;

    f) Encourage productive researchers to involve graduate students in scientific, technological and artistic-cultural activities;

    d) Each project should be presented in a summary format, with a maximum of 10 (ten) pages, edited in Times New Roman or Arial 12 font, with double spacing and 2,5cm margins, including bibliographic references. Use project model, containing: 1) Characterization of the problem and Justification. 2) Objectives. 3) Methodology (include commentary on the infrastructure and available technical support, inform collaboration / partnerships with other institutions / companies, if applicable, and explain how ethical aspects will be addressed 4) Expected results (include expected scientific output). 5) Budget. 6) Schedule. 7) Competence and experience of the coordinator in the proposed theme, support received from other agencies for the same project and other projects currently funded. 8) Main bibliographic references.     e) The researcher may compete with more than one project for the same trial or request more than one grant for the same project, respecting the scholarship limit per advisor in the Call for Proposals. Integrated project can be submitted by several researchers who can request several scholarships for the same, respecting the maximum number of scholarship holders per advisor.

     

    Project Registration

    The Pibic Notice is published every year on the UFMA website, PIBIC and PPPG, in the section Editais. Usually, their disclosure occurs between the months of March and April. Entries for scientific initiation projects usually take place between March and June via the platform.

     

    Duration of the bag

    The scholarship will have a duration of 12 (twelve) months (if implemented from the first month of validity of the institutional process) beginning on August 1st. Students and teachers of the Scientific Initiation have one year to develop their research, which begins in August of one year and ends in July of the following year. If you are studying until the penultimate semester you can renew the registration and continue in the subproject until graduation. Once graduated, you must disassociate yourself from the Program and / or be replaced by another student, or cancel the research.

     

    Cancellations and Substitutions

    If necessary, the teacher can cancel the student or replace him. To do this, you must complete a signed memorandum stating the cancellation or substitution, which must be submitted together with the partial report of the research carried out by the fellow in the PIBIC Coordination.

     

    Statements

    To obtain a scholarship / advisor statement, simply go to the PIBIC Coordination and fill out an application for declaration. The declaration is issued within 3 business days after the request. The requested statement via e-mail, and, after it is ready, can be sent by e-mail as long as the scholarship / advisor is not in São Luis - MA
