  Português  |    English  |

GET TO KNOW THE PROJECT..

The Sustainable UFMA Program was an initiative of the Vice-Rector of the Federal University of Maranhão, under the management of Prof. Drº Fernando Carvalho and his team of collaborators, students and administrative technicians. Considering the current changes in the management of your Campus, the Program is currently the responsibility of the Infrastructure Superintendence - SINFRA and the current Superintendent Wener Teixeira Miranda dos Santos, in which projects in the area of Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure are managed, along with energy efficiency , water and sewage, paper consumption, quality of life and boosting productive activities even in the most backward or disadvantaged regions.

The advance of new technologies together with planetary connectivity, the wide urbanization of the planet and the advance of social policies make room for what the United Nations has called the Global New Deal, new global pacts. Instead of condominiums, walls and controls to protect the poor, ideological shouting about the threats of immigrants, it is much smarter to promote development where there is poverty. Knowledge is the main item of production factor, the mission is to make it become a great gateway for development.

The deepening economic, social and environmental crises have generated new awareness. Our resources, both financial and technological, must be reoriented to ensure families' well-being and sustainability. The Democratization of access to resources is the logic that governs some systems such as: ending poverty, ensuring growth and jobs, and promoting sustainable industrialization.

HISTORY

The UFMA Sustainable Program was presented in December 2016 to the University's senior management to verify its adequacy to UFMA's Strategic Planning. Among the proposals, the program intends to serve as a guiding pillar for Ufma's hiring, purchasing or agreements initiatives, which, according to its central project, should adopt a larger and more incisive number of sustainability attributes and criteria, as specified in environmental protocols . Its strategic planning provides for the definition of actions, goals, execution deadlines and mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating sustainability actions, enabling UFMA to carry out sustainable practices and rationalize administrative expenses and processes.
